As people enter later life, their relationships might change as they may experience loss of a spouse and/or partner due to death, divorce, or other life circumstances. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, almost 60% of women and nearly 30% of men ages 65 and older are unmarried. This includes individuals who were never married, or are separated, widowed, or divorced. See the following chart for trends in marital status according to age:
