LESSON PLAN · OLDER, WISER, SEXUALLY SMARTER

Sexuality, Aging, Disability, & Chronic Illness

OBJECTIVES

Participants will:

1. Identify the many sexual problems that confront people as they age.

2. Evaluate solutions to these problems being promoted on the Internet, and by pharmaceutical companies, physicians, and the media.

3. Explore many ways people can learn to enhance their sexuality by confronting their problems and learning new approaches to being sexual regardless of age, disability, or illness.

RATIONALE

Aging, disability, and chronic illness can all challenge and subvert people’s sexuality. In order to overcome such challenges, people must actively identify and confront their problems and discover ways to re-envision themselves as sexual people. This session encourages participants to acknowledge their problems, whatever they are, and discover new and, often, more satisfying ways they can be sexual. This is a challenge, and, given the many resources available today, an amazing opportunity to revitalize one’s sexual life.
