LESSON PLAN · TEACHING SAFER SEX THIRD EDITION

Two Stories About Growing Up

OBJECTIVES:

Participants will:

1. Demonstrate an ability to apply their knowledge about menstruation and seminal emissions.

2. Develop an understanding of the range of feelings that exist among class members in regard to seminal emissions and menstruation.

3. Show an awareness of questions boys and girls have about seminal emissions and menstruation and the human resources available for obtaining reliable answers.

RATIONALE:

This activity is meant to help students gain an increased understanding of menstruation and seminal emissions and of how their classmates view these sex-specific experiences. Students’ perceptions of these processes are explored through the use of open-ended sentences that are woven into a story format. The stories allow the students to project their own thoughts and feelings through the medium of a fictional character. It is also a means for the teacher to assess the range of knowledge and attitudes that students have about menstruation and seminal emissions.
